| The 29th Annual Training
Seminar was held at Caesar's Tahoe Hotel on October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th,
2000 in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. This year's seminar was hosted
by the Northern Chapter of WSATI.
Golf Chairman James Lamberto co-ordinated a Golf Tournament at the Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch in Genoa, Nevada prior to the seminar. Northern Chapter President Mike Miller put together a "Hot Cars and Hot Rods" show that also was held prior to the seminar. ![]() The seminar opened with the Nevada Highway Patrol Honor Guard presenting the flags of Canada and the United States. The national anthems of both countries were played for all in attendance. Northern Chapter President Mike Miller presided over the opening cere- monies and welcomed the close to 500 participants.
Guests speakers included Washoe County (California) Sheriff Chaplain Paul Cook, Douglas County (Nevada) Sheriff Ron Pierini and IAATI National President Roger Van Drew. The Keynote Speaker was Dwight "Spike" Helmick, the Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol.
Commissioner Helmick not only spoke on the topic of vehicle theft and how it was on the decrease in California, but also spoke about his friend (and ours) Fritz Grimsley. We were given information as to the "real" reason WSATI was formed about thirty years ago... Mike Miller gave a special thank you to WSATI Southern Chapter President Gary Labb for helping promote the seminar on the Southern Chapter website www.wsati.org. Gary is the webmaster of the WSATI.org website. The following classes (and instructors) were available for the participants to attend: * International Thefts and Repatriation of Vehicles
