State University Administration of Justice Bureau is offering two upcoming
Vehicle
Theft for Investigators classes in the first half of 2001.
January 29 - February 2, 2001 April 30 - May 4, 2001 Classes will be held at the Holiday Express at the Airport, San Jose in 2001. 2002 Classes will be part of the Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) curriculum and this will become a Foundation Specialty class. February 4 - February 8, 2002 Additional classes to be announced Classes will be held at the Los Gatos Lodge, Los Gatos, in 2002 Cost: $300 (pending an increase)

Police Department is offering Vehicle Theft for Patrol / Traffic Officers

Police Department is offering a five-day (40 hour) Vehicle Theft Investigation
Class for police investigators/detectives. This is also an ICI
Foundation Specialty class. This will be offered twice in 2001.

| The California
Highway Patrol will be presenting six sessions of their Vehicle Theft
Investigation Course in 2001. The purpose of these training courses
is to impart operational knowledge and guidelines for activities relating
to the investigation of vehicle theft.
The course consists of 40 hours of training certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as part of their Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI), and the $251 tuition is reimbursable under POST Plan III. The training course will be presented at three locations throughout the state for the convenience of those individuals who have obtained approval from their agency. Investigation of Motor Vehicle Fires

The class is being held in Monterey, CA July 16th-18th, 2001. (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) The cost is $675 per person, which includes continental breakfast and lunch each day, as well as a copy of the book, Investigation of Motor Vehicle Fires, 4th edition (latest hardbound edition). The first two days are classroom-style with the third day set aside for hands-on investigation of burned vehicles. Sandy Mahoney <mailto:lscole@lsc-associates.com> "Hot Wheels 2001" - Investigation of Motor Vehicle Fires September 20-22, 2001 Where: Sheraton Cavalier, 2620 - 32nd Avenue N.E., Calgary, Alberta Description: The Fire Investigation Association of Alberta, Chapter 38 of the I.A.A.I. will be hosting its annual meeting and seminar, in Calgary, Alberta, on September 20 to 22, 2001. The topic for the seminar is motor vehicle fires. There will be approximately 15 vehicles set on fire through various methods. Syndicates will be coordinated and pre-planned scenarios will be in place. Each syndicate will do one major investigation, and also do a quick examination of nine other vehicles. The vehicles will be videotaped during the setting of the fires and will be viewed by all delegates after each Syndicate presents the result of its investigation.
