San Jose State University Administration of Justice Bureau is offering a Vehicle Theft for Investigators class in the first half of 2002.

Classes are part of the Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) curriculum and this is a Foundation Specialty class.

Santa Ana Police Department is offering a Vehicle Theft for Patrol / Traffic Officers Class:

Tuesday, March 5th and Wednesday, March 6th, 2002             0800 - 1700 hrs
Tuesday, August 27th and Wednesday, August 28th, 2002        0800 - 1700 hrs

Next Class scheduled for March 17th and 18th, 2003

The class will be held at the Santa Ana PD Training Facility, Santa Ana
The class is sixteen hours (New for 2002) in length and is P.O.S.T. certified.

The class is designed to give the in-field officer a better understanding of methods used by thieves and to be able to better recognize VIN switched vehicles.

The Los Angeles Police Department is offering a five-day (40 hour) Vehicle Theft Investigation Class for police investigators/detectives.  This is also an ICI Foundation Specialty class.  This will be offered twice in 2002.

March 11th - 15th, 2002                       September 23rd - 27th, 2002

The Los Angeles Police Department will be presenting the 5-day Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) Vehicle Theft Investigation Course on September 23 through 27, 2002.  The course will be presented at the Automobile Club of Southern California in Gardena, and the General Motors Training Center located in Burbank.  We currently have 20 openings for the course.  The course is certified under POST Plan III, tuition reimbursement.  The tuition is $208 per student.  Investigative personnel interested in attending the course should contact the Course Administrator, Detective Chris Figueroa, at telephone number (213) 485-2676, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

The California Highway Patrol will be presenting five sessions of their Vehicle Theft Investigation Course in 2002.  The purpose of these training courses is to impart operational knowledge and guidelines for activities relating to the investigation of vehicle theft.

The course consists of 40 hours of training certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as part of their Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI), and the $251 tuition is reimbursable under POST Plan III.

The training course will be presented at two locations throughout the state for the convenience of those individuals who have obtained approval from their agency.  Dates and locations of the courses are as follows:

The California Burglary & Theft Investigators Association, Northern Chapter proudly presents the 53rd Annual W.S.S.B.I.A. Conference in Reno, NV.

Registration will be on Monday October 14, 2002  from 6- 9 P.M.  and will continue on Tuesday morning.    The  training sessions will start on Tuesday October 15, 2002 @0800hrs hrs and end @ 1200hrs on Friday October 18, 2002.

We will have a Hosted Bar & Food  get together on Tuesday night.  We will host one lunch and a conference dinner.   The association will have a hosted bar every night of the conference.

If you have any cases that you want to share with the group we will provide a session at the conference for that.  Please bring handouts on your cases and they will be distributed.

The following is an announcement for a training class designed to provide the participant with working knowledge of how to obtain  information with a search warrant from an Internet service provider and how to search for and seize related digital media.  Limited scholoarships are  available - read this announcement for further details.

Search Warrants for Digital  Evidence                                 November 18-19,  2002
WestCoast Anaheim Hotel,  Anaheim,  CA.

This workshop is designed for beginning and  intermediate-level investigators and prosecutors who conduct investigations  where Internet-related communication or computers play an integral part.  The program goal is to provide the participant with working knowledge of how to obtain information with a search warrant from an Internet service provider and how to search for and seize related digital media. Attendees are encouraged  to bring a laptop computer and county search warrant templates. Review of essential contents and legal bases for search warrants. Focus will be on composing search warrants to obtain account records stored with an Internet service provider and drafting follow-up search warrants for the suspect's computer. Interactive exercise in writing warrants for the sample
scenario as well as the seizure and preservation of evidence  recovered.

Tuition for this seminar is $100.

The WestCoast Anaheim Hotel is located at 1855 South Harbor Boulevard in
