The 2007 Training Seminar was held at the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center in San Diego, California. The seminar was hosted by the Southern Chapter of WSATI.
The Seminar began with early
registration taking place the afternoon of Monday, September 10, 2007,
and late registration taking place on Tuesday morning, September 11, 2007.
2007 Southern Chapter President Bud Hood presided over the opening ceremonies and welcomed the close to 400 attendees. Bud then introduced San Diego County Sheriffs Department Chaplain Herb Smith who gave the invocation. Following the invocation, a short video was presented in remembrance of September 11th, 2001. Bud then introduced San Diego County Sheriffs Department Assistant Sheriff Earl Wentworth, Law Enforcement Services Division. Bud then introduced CHP Assistant Chief Steve Vaughn, Enforcement Services Division. The Keynote Speaker was Bobby
Southard, 2007-2008 IAATI
President. Bobby spoke about NMVTIS
and IAATI. Bobby explained to those attending that IAATI had granted
all WSATI attendees a free one year membership in IAATI. Bobby called
2007 IAATI Western Regional Chapter
President
Gary Labb
up to the podium and presented the Western Regional Chapter with a check
to assist the Western Regional Chapter in supporting vehicle theft organizations
like WSATI.
Bud Hood gave a special thank you to WSATI Southern Chapter Past President Gary Labb for helping promote the seminar on the Southern Chapter website www.wsati.org. Gary is the webmaster of the WSATI.org website. NICB Senior Special Agent Ken Hutchison made a presentation of the Gary Gray Auto Theft Achievement Award. There were two awards given. The first award was presented to Troy Rivers, CHP Field Support Services, Vehicle Theft Unit. Ken then presented the second award to Dave Yokley, CHP Inland Division, Investigative Services Unit.
Bud Hood then called WSATI
Northwest President Frank Zangar to the podium
to present the WSATI Award, the Gerald
"Jerry" Boyer Memorial Award. Frank explained the
criteria for the award. He said it is to go to a member of one of
the IAATI Western Regional WSATI Chapters for outstanding service and unselfish
dedication to the organization. Frank then presented the award to
RCMP-IMPACT Sergeant Ed
Boettcher. Ed was humbled to accept the award and recognized
both prior award recipients,
Pat O'Donnell
and Gary Labb, who were in the audience.
Bud then ended the opening ceremonies and invited all to take part in the training sessions.
