CHAPTER
HISTORY
AAA and National Agency Form Vegas Bureau to Combat
Auto Theft
LAS VEGAS, January 22, 2002
Triple-A Nevada says Las Vegas ranks sixth in the nation
in car thefts. That's why the auto club and the National Insurance
Crime Bureau are forming a Western States Auto Theft Investigators chapter
in southern Nevada. Local police, insurance companies, the state
Attorney General's office and others hope that comparing notes and sharing
expertise will help put a dent in the problem. They're kicking off
the effort with a meeting Thursday morning at the Sunset Station hotel-casino
in Henderson. The crime bureau ranks Las Vegas with Phoenix; Miami;
Detroit; Jersey City, New Jersey; and Tacoma, Washington. The Triple-A
says auto theft rates cost the public in police and court time and drive
up insurance rates.
