In 2009 the Northern Chapter of  WSATI presented the first annual Distinguished Service Award  for outstanding achievements in the war on Auto Theft by an individual or a team, either Law Enforcement or Insurance.   The award is in honor of those individuals who have made an indelible mark on our lives and how we go about our day to day business of fighting fraud and theft and left us far too soon.  Some of these individuals are memorialized by individual awards given in their names.  This award is meant to celebrate and remember them all. 

This award is funded by the WSATI Northern Chapter and is marked by the awarding of a commemorative plaque or equivalent at the annual training conference.

The 2009 Award was presented at the 2009 Conference in South Lake Tahoe to Detective Matt Lewis of the Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail (RAID) for his investigation which broke up a construction equipment theft ring leading to multiple arrests and the recovery of over a million dollars of stolen equipment.

The 2010 Award was presented at the 2010 WSATI Training Seminar in San Diego.  The Award was presented by Northern Chapter President Don Farnham to retired Santa Ana Police Department / OCATT Detective Gary Labb.  To say Gary was surprised would be an understatement as he was taking photos of the awards ceremonies when his name was announced.

It is that time of year again. I am requesting nominations for this year’s third annual Distinguished Service Award.  I request that all nominations with a brief synopsis of the candidate be emailed or snail mailed to me by August 15th 2011.  The WSATI Northern Chapter board of directors will select the recipient from the nominations received.
