There were several Southern Chapter Past Presidents in attendance including Bill Lovold (2001), Gary Labb (2000), Dave Dempsey (1998), Carol Vannatter (1996), and Terry Cramer (1995). Dave then asked Carol VanNatter, who is assisting in putting on this year's 51st Annual IAATI Training Seminar, to speak about the seminar. The seminar will be held on August 3rd to 8th, 2003 at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills. For further information regarding the seminar, go to the WSATI link, or to the IAATI link. Dave then spoke about the 2003 WSATI Training Seminar to be held October 6th, 7th, and 8th, 2003 in Lake Tahoe and hosted by the Northern Chapter. Diana Rummel, Crime Prevention Program for the Construction Industry, spoke about the increase in construction equipment thefts as well as an increase in the recovery of the equipment. She had handout material updating stolen equipment, as well as some new CPP pamphlets. Southern Chapter Vice President Phil Macklin (Allstate Insurance SIU) called San Diego Police Department Detective Jerry Park to the podium. Phil recognized Jerry for his dedication to the WSATI Association. Jerry is retiring from the San Diego Police Department after 35 years of service. Jerry is a past recipient of the Southern Chapter's prestigious Billy Osborn Memorial Award (1997). Jerry's retirement party is going to be held in San Diego on May 23rd, 2003. Dave then introduced the guest speaker, Forrest Folck of Motor Vehicle Forensic Service. Forrest gave a Power Point presentation regarding lock forensics, with particular attention to the Lexus keys. Forrest was able to produce a key that could work in Lexus ignitions. Forrest can be reached at (619) 286-7939. Following Forrest's presentation, a luncheon was provided by the Santa Ana Elks Lodge. Following lunch, Dave asked for any nominations for the Bent Screwdriver Award. There were no nominations. Dave then attempted to nominate Treasurer Steve Torres but the audience would have nothing to do with his nomination. Several people then nominated Dave for numerous acts. Dave then attempted to nominate Vice President Phil Macklin. Once again the audience would have nothing to do with the nomination. Dave Randolph was the unanimous winner of the award. Contact Dave by e-mail to find out why. The raffle was then held. WSATI wishes to thank Enterprise Car Rental for their generous donations of numerous raffle prizes. The meeting was adjourned. |
