Tim said that things were progressing well for the 2013 Training Seminar which will be taking place on May 20-24, 2013 in San Diego.  Tim said as more information is available it will be placed on the WSATI website.  Tim said that WSATI purchased baseball tickets for the May 22nd game between the San Diego Padres and the St. Louis Cardinals.  He said the tickets are in the "All You Can East" section and are now available for purchase with the baseball game information posted on the WSATI website.

Tim then introduced the Guest Speaker, ICW Group Insurance Companies' Mike Bender, who gave a presentation on "Automobile High Tech Theft and Fraud." It appears that many were surprised by the innovative way criminals are finding to steal vehicles.  As Mike was half kidding, future thefts may be done by "tweeting."  Mike gave an excellent presentation combining multi-media and lecture.

Tim introduced the 2013 WSATI Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:

Vice President Tim Jackson (AAA Southern California SIU)
Secretary Aristeed Powell (DMV Investigations)
Sergeant-At-Arms Shawn Robison (Workmen's Auto Insurance SIU)
Associate Director Heather Roberts ( Liberty Mutual Insurance SIU)
Associate Director Mick O'Neill (Hagerty Insurance SIU)
Legal Counsel Richard Knapp (Knapp Law Firm, LLP)

President Rob Manning (LASD) and Treasurer Brian Yori (LAPD/TRAP) could not attend the meeting.

Tim then introduced Past WSATI Southern Chapter Presidents who were in attendance:

Skip Davidson (1991), Ted Saraf (1992), Dennis Frias (1997), Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), Lou Koven (2002), Jim Williams (2009), and John Bartolone (2010).

Tim requested that the attendees do self introductions to assist with possible networking.  He also requested that any attendees bring up cases of interest to the group.

WSATI 2000 Past President / Current Webmaster Gary Labb (Santa Ana PD / OCATT - Retired) advised the attendees of the importance of filling in the sign-in forms as they are transferred to the online encrypted roster on the website.  Gary then had Bill Lovold give the attendees the password to access the encrypted roster.  Gary said that the roster was a great networking tool.  Gary also spoke about the WSATI Classic Cars page on the WSATI website, asking the attendees to look at the almost 280 classic cars currently listed.

Several other attendees spoke about cases that will not be discussed in the minutes.  It was good to have so many of the attendees share information with the other attendees.

Due to Rob being unavailable, the usual collection of WSATI shirts were not at the meeting.  To see some of the available shirts, please go to WSATIWear.  Please contact Rob Manning at his listed email address for current pricing on the shirts.

Prior to lunch, the raffle was conducted by WSATI Southern Chapter Secretary Aristeed Powell  (DMV Investigations) and WSATI Southern Chapter Sergeant at Arms Shawn Robison (Workmen's Auto Insurance SIU).  There were a lot of great raffle prizes.  I believe Kim walked away with the Kindle Fire.  AAA also provided some tickets for the NASCAR race coming up the weekend of March 23-24, 2013.

The Covina Woman's Club then provided a lunch for the attendees.  As Jim Williams (Long Beach PD - Retired) mentioned, with WSATI supporting the Covina Woman's Club, it allows the Woman's Club to support several battered woman's groups in the area.

Following the luncheon, the meeting was adjourned by Tim Jackson.  The next meeting will be on Thursday, July 18, 2013.

There were some new faces that came to the meeting as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time.  This meeting drew people from as far as Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino County.  It was nice to see a Detective I worked with many years ago when he was at TRAP, Jeff Enfield, now back as a L.A. County TRAP Lieutenant.  Thank you all for your attendance.

Following the conclusion of the Training Meeting / Luncheon, a Training Seminar Committee meeting was held, chaired by 2013 WSATI Southern Chapter Vice President Tim Jackson (AAA Southern California SIU) in the absence of 2013 WSATI Southern Chapter President Rob Manning (LASD).
