DANIEL F. "Dan" RYAN

Federal Bureau of Investigation, San Diego RATT
1990 WSATI Southern Chapter President

Dan, who was known affectionately as "Brother Ratt" to many of us associated with vehicle theft task forces, passed away on December 6, 2012 after a fight with cancer that we first learned about on August 15, 2012.

Dan was with the FBI for 29 years, the last five as the Co-ordinator of the San Diego County Regional Auto Theft Team (RATT).  Dan was a member of OCATI, WSATI, and IAATI.  He served as the 1990 President of the Western States Auto Theft Investigators Association (WSATI), Southern Chapter and the 1991-1992 President of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI).  Dan was also the recipient of the WSATI Southern Chapter's 1994 Billy Osborn Memorial Award.

Attention All IAATI Members
1991-1992 Past President Dan Ryan Needs Your Assistance

For those of you that haven't heard, Dan and Karen were on a bike ride in Southwest British Columbia, when the vision in his left eye became cloudy and they believed he had a detached retina. They immediately flew home to San Diego and saw specialists. They identified a tumor in his left eye as a melanoma. A cat scan discovered there was possible activity in the lungs, ribs and mostly the liver. A biopsy on 8/6 confirmed that the melanoma had progress rapidly in the liver to stage four.

Dan's doctors are being very aggressive. Dan has established a Caringbridge webpage to keep all of his friends updated on his progress. Dan and his wife Karen need your prayers. Through Dan's determination, prayer and God's divine help, Dan will conquer this obstacle that life has thrown at him. He needs PRAYER WARRIORS around the world. Please spread the word to our IAATI membership that we have a Past President in need!!!

GO to http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/danielryan and find sign up on Dan's Caringbridge page. You can stay abreast of his medical updates, but more importantly, you can post messages, well wishes and prayers to him and Karen. He just started the page tonight and has near a hundred friends already signed up, but I noticed that none of them were IAATI members yet. Let's get the word out and make that counter top a thousand. He is in need of an ARMY OF PRAYER WARRIORS and the IAATI membership has never failed to come to the aid of their members. Let Dan and Karen know that his IAATI family is here for him. John, can you please post this on the website and anywhere else you can think of.

Thank you all in advance and God bless Dan Ryan, his wife Karen, and their entire family.

Ken MacKenzie
Past President 1994

I just received this from Dan Ryan's Careing Bridge site. His wife Karen made this final entry.

He was a dedicate IAATI member and Past President.

Denny

Dan died at 1:47 pm (PST) at the Emeritus Facility surrounded by his loved ones. We were all able to say "goodbye" to Dan and pray for him. He died peacefully. One friend noticed that a flock of birds met outside his window as if to escort him home to his Father. We were blessed and privileged to know Dan and say our farewells in his final hour. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and prayers. He will be missed!
Love, Karen
