![]() Steve then requested that Past President Skip Davidson (Davidson Investigations) lead the members in the pledge of allegiance. Steve then introduced the other 2006 Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance: Rich Greenwood, Secretary,
Riverside Police
Steve said that Bud Hood, Vice President, OCSD / OCATT, was in court but would try to make it by lunch. Steve then introduced the Southern Chapter Past Presidents in attendance: Skip Davidson (1991), Ted Saraf (1992), Dave Dempsey (1998), Gary Labb (2000), and Phil Macklin (2004). Steve then requested that those in attendance do a self introduction of their names and which agencies they represented. It was great to see the great turnout of people who traveled in from Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego Counties. It was good to see some new faces from San Diego RATT and some familiar (but not recently seen) faces like Long Beach Police Auto Theft Detective Johnny Miyasaki and former LAPD BAD-CATS Detective Keith Jackson. Steve then spoke briefly about the upcoming WSATI Annual Training Seminar being hosted by the Northern Chapter of WSATI on October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, 2006. Steve said that the WSATI Southern Chapter will be hosting the 2007 WSATI Annual Training Seminar. Steve said the Seminar would be in San Diego. He advised that Vice President Bud Hood, who will be the chairperson for the Seminar, would be hosting a committee meeting after the meeting. There will be bi-monthly meetings to put together the 2007 WSATI Annual Training Seminar and the Southern Chapter is seeking committee members to assist with putting together the Seminar. He requested that anyone having an interest, please contact Bud by email at or 714 634-1385. For further information on the seminar go to http://www.wsati.org/2007conference.html. Steve advised that the motorcycle presentation was not quite ready and asked if anyone had anything they'd like to share with the attendees. Forrest Folck, Motor Vehicle Forensic Service, brought up and displayed how thieves are currently getting around the GM ignition systems. Forrest can be contacted at or (619) 286-7939. Earl Gunnerson, Executive Director of the Crime Prevention Program of Southern California, spoke about recent updated statistics available regarding 2005 construction equipment theft. If you want a copy of the statistics, contact Earl or Jane at or (562) 860-9006 or it can be found on their website. Jim Williams then introduced LASD/Harbor TRAP Detective Grady Miles who did a presentation on sport bike identification. He was joined by Jim who gave some information and by Ted Saraf of LoJack as some LoJack equipped motorcycles have led to the discovery of motorcycle chop shops. Vice President Bud Hood arrived, unrecognized by the attendees as he came in a business suit. After the usual warm greetings you would expect, Bud walked up and started to preside over the raffle. There were a lot of winners. As Bud explained earlier, the proceeds from the raffle go to support the WSATI Southern Chapter. After Bud drew the back to back to back winning tickets of Secretary Rich Greenwood, but let someone else continue the raffle. The "grand prize" ticket was drawn by Dave Dempsey and the prize went to Dave Dempsey. Yeah, we all thought that too...but Rich and Dave probably bought the most tickets of anyone attending... Once the raffle was over, those in attendance enjoyed lunch and the chance to talk to their peers at their tables. Steve advised that Detective Miles had some additional "show and tell" items outside the meeting room for those who wished to see the items. Steve then adjourned the meeting. After the meeting, people interested in helping put together the 2007 WSATI Training Seminar got together to discuss committees and what was needed. Attending the meeting were Bud Hood, Kimberly Baker, Earl Gunnerson, Jim Hayes, Keith Jackson, Geraldine Gary, Rich Greenwood, Dave Dempsey, John Bartolone, Steve Torres, Phil Macklin, Skip Davidson, Dennis Frias, and Gary Labb. We are seeking more people to be involved in all aspects of the Seminar. Some of the committees are Training and Educational Committee; Publicity, Marketing, and Public Relations Committee; Finance Committee; Exhibits Committee; Registration Committee; and Local Entertainment, Amusement, Sightseeing, and Companion Program Committee. If someone wants to put together a golf tournament in conjunction with the Seminar, we would like to have you involved. All these committees can use additional people. If you have an interest, please contact Bud. The next scheduled Seminar planning meeting will be on Thursday, October 19, 2006 in San Diego. Rich Greenwood suggested that we have a "logo" contest to determine the logo to be used on the polo shirts for the 2007 WSATI Training Seminar. The "winner" of the contest will receive a free registration for the Seminar ($175 value). Rich can be contacted at . |
