Good evening, Officer Thompson.  I  was the victim of a burglary here in Tucson last week.  In the process, the perpetrators stole my 1965 Chevy C-10 1/2 ton pick up.  This truck was originally purchased by my father in 1965 and due to his recent passing, the truck was left to me.  I would like to request your services, please, in placing the attached pictures of the truck in your officers briefing paperwork, if you would.

As you can imagine, being the 2nd owner of a 1965 vehicle, it has great sentiment and I would like to put as many eyes out there on the streets as possible to recover my father's truck.

I would like to thank you in advance for your efforts and assistance on recovering my cherished pickup.

Thank you, Scott McCaw

Hi Gary,

Although this car may not fit the strict definition of a classic, it could lead to some of the other true classics that are on your list. These cars are highly sought after, Jay Leno and Sean Penn own one (both stolen and recovered).  It was the fastest accelerating production car of the 80's, 13.9 seconds in the quarter mile.

Here is the information on my car for your consideration.

Year, Make, Model: 1987 Buick Regal T-Type

Gary, hope all is well.   This is Tim Bell with LASD TRAP - West Team.  On June 3rd, LAPD Devonshire Division narcotics unit discovered a 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible inside the garage of the suspect's residence.   The vehicle has obviously been VIN switched.

The suspect has no paperwork on the car at all but claims she bought the car from a friend for thirty thousand dollars.  Yeah right…..!  We believe the vehicle is related to the "Jerry Thompson" case involving classic stolens.

Anyway, can you post the vehicle photos on your website in case someone recognizes it.  Maybe we can find out the true owner.  Nice vehicle.  Tim

The victim's vehicle is described as:

1958 Chevy Impala, 2 door, turquoise green/teal with a white hard top
VIN/F58L180119
DOT/052608

The victim says vehicle was in showroom condition.  Estimated value is 60k

Distinguishing items if car is already VIN switched:

  • Vehicle has original 283 engine
  • Vehicle has factory air which is not standard for that year
  • Interior is vinyl green with sitting portion containing gray, light green, and dark green large stripes
  • Everything else on vehicle is standard and original
On 052608 between 0001 and 0900 hours, unknown suspects took the vehicle by unknown means, from the carport of the victim's home, just feet from where the victim's bedroom is located in the city of phoenix.

Please call me if I can provide you with anything else.  Thanks.  Annette

Hi Gary.  I finally got some time to post this information with you.  The flier I have attached has most of the info, but I got some more details from the victim that is not in the flyer.  Also can you post a $20,000 reward from the owner.  Here are some distinguishing items that should help identify the car if it is already VIN switched:

  • Vehicle has original 283 engine in it.
  • Paint job was only in stage 1.
  • It has red interior
  • Chevy hood emblem belongs to a V6 rather than a V8
  • Rings around taillight assembly is heavily pitted from wear and tear
  • Convertible does not have a motor, must be opened manually
  • Driver and passenger door does not have red reflector on inside panel
  • The antenna hole is in front with no antenna, antenna hole should be in back but owner changed it.
  • Speaker grill located in middle of back seat is missing the Impala emblem
Thanks Gary.  I appreciate your help.

On 3/26/08 unknown suspects break into One Stop Auto Repair located at 4928 Florence Avenue and steal a 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible.  This vehicle is completely restored and valued at $120,000.00.

Subject: Stolen 55 chevy

My Car was stolen at the Great Indoors parking lot on Sunday, March 9th, between 4:15 and 4:45, at the Empire Shopping Mall in Burbank CA. My car was a 1955 210, painted tan and white.  It had a 502/550 HP.  400 tranny, small hubcaps and beauty rims. The front name plate read "1955 Sleeping Thunder."

Very stock looking and sedate in appearance. Cloth interior,  antique Auto Meter gauges and tack.  Three inch exhaust all the way out, two seat belts in front, none in the rear seat. Electronic ignition so the battery is in the trunk next to the spare tire.

The drivers side mat has a Chevy bow tie sewn into it.  That is about it.  Your thoughtfulness in helping me is very much appreciated.  The fact of the matter is that this car and others are out of the country in a matter of hours or cut up and sold off. It is a shame.  Again, thanks for the help.

Hi, my name is Julio Diaz and my 1967 Chevy Camaro convertible was stolen by Jerry Thompson and I would like to post it on your site.  My license plates were found in his possession (on 4/4/08) but my car is still missing.

1967 Camaro convertible, SS350 badging, red exterior with black bumble bee stripes up front and blacked out tail light panel, cowl induction hood, red standard interior with a 68-69 black console with round aftermarket gauges, new black top, crack running almost straight down the middle of the windshield, dent on right fender California personalized black license plate read 67RAGTO with a 1967 year tab on it, front plate was custom made only had a red JD on it.  15" rally wheels with BF Goodrich 215/60/r15 in front and 245/60/r15 in rear with raised white letters. Headlights were aftermarket projector lights.  350 engine, Muncie 4-speed transmission with a Hurst shifter.  A good give away for those Camaro experts is the incorrect bumble bee stripes as shown in the picture.  Stolen from the vicinity of Sherman Way and the 170 Freeway in North Hollywood, CA.

Hello,

Can you add a picture of my stolen 1971 chevy truck. I found this site after reading the article from the daily news. The truck sounds so much like mine that I thought maybe someone out there had seen it.

The truck was stolen on the 9th of Jan in Van Nuys CA. It is a yellow and white 1971 Chevy Cheyenne Short Bed. It has a new 350 engine with turbo 350 auto trans.  It recently had a frame off restore so the paint is good, everything else is new (bumpers, grill, trim and smoked glass), the interior is the Special Deluxe bench seat in black with door panels and headliner, it has a fact tilt wheel, power steering, power brakes and was a factory a/c cab. The truck also had a brand new set of Coys (20x8 in front and 20x10's gray finish with polish lip).

Subject: Stolen 1949 Ford Sedan (shoebox)

A guy in Long Beach was going to do some work on the car and left it parked in the alley behind his house.  The neighbor saw two guys pushing it up the alley but failed to tell the guy.  Needless to say the car was stolen.

1949 Ford "Shoebox," Blue 2 door sedan, VIN #98HA139779, reported stolen to Long Beach PD on 9/20/07, under their case number 070074785.

Attached three photos are of a vehicle that looks similar to stolen car.  The car is dark blue with no plates. A new front clip was installed, as well as air bags in the rear of the car.  No engine.

My 1960 356-B Porsche Roadster was stolen from my apartment located in the McKinley Park area of Sacramento, CA in March 1993.

VIN/86865
LIC/3CUG762 Calif Sticker # V1373560
Date of Theft: 03/20/93
Sacramento City Police Report # 93-24134

My car was painted with black laquer, all of the body work was done using lead and the original interior upolstery panels were out of the car and are still in my possession. The original paint color was a greenish blue and there are still places on the car that have small pieces of the original paint affixed. The bondo had been removed after having been sand blasted. There is also small pieces of sand inside the shaft where the clutch cable runs because the car was sandblasted before restoration in 1981.

Peter can be contacted at (916) 897-7771 or email jimmycrunchy@yahoo.com

Note: This vehicle is no longer listed in CA SVS or NCIC as the record has been purged. The purged record is still listed in NICB records.
