The sixteen hour P.O.S.T. certified class is designed to give the in-field officer a better understanding of methods used by thieves and to be able to better recognize VIN switched vehicles.  Four hours of the class are practical application time at a local tow yard.

The Los Angeles Police Department is offering a five-day Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) Burglary Theft Investigation Course for police investigators/detectives.   The instruction for this five-day course is provided primarily by personnel assigned to Commercial Crimes Division, Burglary Special Section. The modules of instruction include subjects such as Crime Scenes related to burglaries; Transient Crimes; Pawnshop Procedures; Computer Thefts and Organized Theft Groups. The Los Angeles Police Department is offering a ten-day Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) Core Course for police investigators/detectives.  The Los Angeles Police Department, in cooperation with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standard and Training (POST), is one of six agencies presenting the ICI Core Course. Students must complete this course in order to earn an ICI certificate. This two-week course is designed to provide investigators with the proper tools to meet the new challenges in criminal investigation. Students recover physical evidence, conduct interviews and interrogations, and participate in surveillance exercises. A case report and a search warrant are required from each participant to successfully complete the course. This course requires outside perparation (homework) for which there is no compensation. This is a voluntary course. LAPD students must sign a waiver acknowledging that they are voluntarily taking this course and they understand that no overtime for homework will be authorized.  POST Control Number: 1850-26000
