TRAINING MEETING / LUNCHEON
July 18, 2002 - RainTree Restaurant - Carlsbad
|2002 President Lou
Koven (LAPD BAD CATS) started the meeting
by welcoming everyone to the Rain
Lou then had former LAPD Detective Sergeant, former NICB Agent, current AAA SIU Investigator, and Past President Dave Dempsey lead all the members in the pledge of allegiance.
Lou then had the members in attendance do self introductions. Lou thanked the San Diego PD contingent for their large numbers in attendance.
Lou then introduced the 2002 WSATI Southern Chapter Officers, as well as current members of the Board of Directors, as well as Past Presidents attending.
Lou then thanked WSATI Webmaster Gary Labb for his continued efforts in keeping the website current, as well as sending out all the informative e-mails.
Lou then introduced the guest speakers, Harold Taylor CHP/Harbor TRAP (562 437-8794) and David Valiton CHP/Division Salvage (323 353-8391), who spoke about how the current salvage program is being administered in California.
The members were then invited to partake in the sandwich buffet luncheon provided by the Rain Tree.
Lou then spoke of the upcoming 31st Annual WSATI Training Seminar to be held in Lake Tahoe, hosted by the Central Chapter, on September 29th to October 1st, 2002.
Lou then spoke of the upcoming 50th Annual IAATI Training Seminar to be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 4th to 9th, 2002.
Lou then opened the microphone to audience members who wished to speak.
Orange County Sheriffs Investigator Bud Hood brought everyone up to date with the status of the murder investigation involving five year old Samantha Runnion.
Lou then brought up Past President Terry Cramer for recognition. Terry retired on June 27th from the Orange County Sheriffs Department. Terry has been a long time member of WSATI and IAATI. Terry has been involved in the planning of the last three WSATI Southern Chapter seminars. A very nice glass trophy was presented to Terry.
Lou then asked for any nominations for the Bent Screwdriver Award. San Diego PD Detective Jerry Park brought forth the name of one of his fellow San Diego PD Detectives, Bobby Rollins. Just don't mention LoJack and Bobby Rollins in the same sentence. It appeared to be unanimous as Bobby Rollins is the newest award winner.
Lou recognized Progressive Insurance for helping to provide raffle prizes for the attendees.
The raffle was then held. There was some controversy as several of the members managed to draw their own tickets, but alas, the Bent Screwdriver Award has already been given to Bobby...
The meeting was adjourned.
