Center - Riverside
2008 WSATI Southern Chapter President Rick Greenwood (Riverside Police) welcomed everyone to the Riverside Police Magnolia Community Center. Rick had to do double duty, as the Assistant Chef, Past President Bud Hood, was not able to make it to the meeting so Rick had to also be Executive Chef.
Rick then introduced the other 2008 WSATI Officers in attendance:
Vice President Jim Williams,
Long Beach Police
Rick then introduced the Southern Chapter Past Presidents in attendance: Skip Davidson (1991), Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), and Phil Macklin (2004).
Rick spoke about the upcoming WSATI Training Seminar to be held in Monterey on September 28-October 1, 2008 hosted by the Central Chapter. A member in the audience said that when he made his reservation it sounded like the guest hotel was filling up. Gary Labb mentioned he just got an email from P.J. O'Donnell, WSATI Central Chapter Treasurer, and that P.J. said he would be forwarding the class schedule and instructors to Gary in the next few days so the information could be posted on the website. P.J. also mentioned he would be giving a "hotel update."
Rick then spoke about WSATI, in co-operation with the IAATI Western Regional Chapter, posting an encrypted roster on the WSATI website that contains contact information for WSATI Chapters, AATIA, CATI, BCATTI, and Alberta ATIA. This will give us available contact information for all the vehicle theft associations within the jurisdiction of the IAATI Western Regional Chapter. This is now up and operating. It can be located in the link to the IAATI WRC. Each contributing association president was given the encryption password and can supply it to their own association membership. WSATI Southern Chapter members need to contact Rick for the password.
Rick asked if any of the people in attendance had anything they'd like to share.
Gary Labb (Santa Ana PD/OCATT [Retired]), spoke on behalf of Tim Lewis of LCI Services. Gary said that Tim couldn't make it to the meeting as he had planned. Gary spoke about a new class that LCI Services would be presenting in 2009 for Law Enforcement, a three-week training class, called TOPCATTI (Training, Organization, & Preparation for Combined Auto Theft Task Force Investigators). Gary handed out flyers to law enforcement personnel in attendance. He said if anyone had questions about the class, they could contact Tim at email@example.com or phone him at 951-695-7540.
Rick then introduced the first Guest Speaker, Mike Bender, of Bender Enterprises, who gave a presentation on 21st Century Auto Theft Tools. Mike then took questions from the audience at the conclusion of his presentation.
Legal Counsel Richard Knapp asked everyone to rise for the pledge of allegiance. Richard then asked everyone in the room to introduce themselves to the others in attendance.
Richard then spoke of some of the problems faced by investigators and legal counsel for insurance companies in false insurance claims when it came to registration. He said that the second guest speaker would touch on this problem.
Richard then introduced the second guest speaker, DMV Investigator John Bartolone. John gave a presentation on temporary California registrations.
Webmaster Gary Labb explained that the information filled in on the sign-in roster was transferred to the encrypted on-line roster at the WSATI website. Gary gave the attendees the encryption password.
WSATI Southern Chapter Vice President Jim Williams (Long Beach PD) then presided over the raffle. There were a lot of different winners, and at the same time many were upset with some of the repeat winners. If you want to be like them, do what they do... buy extra raffle tickets...
Jim announced that the next meeting would be on September 18, 2008 at a location to be determined. He said to check the website for further information which will be posted in the near future. Jim also announced that the November meeting would be held in Torrance at Toyota.
Jim then announced that the lunch that Rick had been preparing was ready. The attendees were then served a Santa Maria style BBQ, which everyone appeared to enjoy and take a trip back for seconds (and for some, thirds)...Tri-tip, chicken, salad, potato salad, beans, and a cookie to top it all off...
The meeting was adjourned.
