TRAINING MEETING / LUNCHEON
July 16, 2015 - Empress Pavilion Restaurant - Los Angeles
2015 WSATI Southern Chapter President Aristeed Powell (DMV Investigations - Orange) welcomed everyone to the meeting and to the newest WSATI venue, the Empress Pavilion Restaurant, Los Angeles. Aristeed then asked Past President Tim Jackson (Auto Club of SoCal) to lead the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.
The other Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:
Vice President Brian
Associate Director Pat Goodman (NICB/OCATT) and Associate Director Mike Stefanoff (CHP/OCATT) were unable to attend the meeting.
The WSATI Southern Chapter Past Presidents who were in attendance were:
Skip Davidson (1991), Ted Saraf (1992), Dennis Frias (1997), Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), Lou Koven (2002), and Tim Jackson (2014).
Southern Chapter Secretary Heather Roberts ( Liberty Mutual Insurance SIU) introduced Guest Speaker Chad Tredway, Forensic Examiner / Automotive Specialist, North American West Automotive Forensic Services. Chad gave a very thorough presentation on "Forensic examination of Vehicle locks, transponder systems, and thefts recovered burned." Chad interacted throughout the presentation with questions posed from the attendees. This obviously was a topic that a lot of people were very interested in.
Aristeed then asked everyone in attendance to introduce themselves to the other attendees and share any information or important cases.
Vice President Brian Yori (LAPD/TRAP) spoke about this year's WSATI Training Seminar, hosted by the Northern Chapter, that will be taking place October 4-7, 2015, in South Lake Tahoe. He then spoke about the 2016 WSATI Training Seminar, hosted by the Southern Chapter, that will be taking place in October 2016 in San Diego (as more details become available, they will be posted on the website).
Aristeed then introduced Associate Director Alan Skobin (LASD/TRAP). Alan explained that the luncheon provided to the attendees was fully hosted/underwritten through the generosity of Empress Pavilion Restaurant and Galpin Ford. Because of their contributions, 100% of the funds paid for training and the luncheon will go toward paying some of the expenses for the 2016 Annual WSATI Seminar, which is being hosted by our Chapter next year. Alan requested other corporate sponsors / agencies to think about hosting an upcoming WSATI Training Meeting / Luncheon so the funds paid by the attendees could go to next year's Seminar. The WSATI Southern Chapter thanks both Galpin Ford and the Empress Pavilion Restaurant for their generosity in supporting the Southern Chapter.
The Empress Pavilion staff then brought out the five, or six or ? course luncheon that was enjoyed by the attendees who remained for lunch after the great training provided by Chad.
During the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to survey the raffle prizes that were available to raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs. Following the luncheon, the raffle was then conducted by Mick O'Neill, Tim Jackson, and Jeff Enfield. There were a lot of people walking away with some very strange items purchased by Mick for the enjoyment of the attendees.
The WSATIWear collection of work shirts, T-shirts, and hats was brought to the meeting and were available for purchase at the meeting. The most current WSATI Southern Chapter T-shirts, hats, and work shirts are also available from WSATIWear. For inquiries regarding WSATIWear, please contact Past President Rob Manning.
There were some new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time. Thank you all for your attendance.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be on September 17, 2015.
