The WSATI Southern Chapter Past Presidents in attendance were:

Ted Saraf (1992), Dennis Frias (1997), Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), Dave Petrelli (2011), and Rob Manning (2013).

Brian spoke about the upcoming WSATI Training Seminar in San Diego on October 16-20, 2016, requesting people spread the word about the seminar and also volunteer to assist with putting it on.  Brian said the Seminar would be co-hosted by the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI).  Registration for the seminar is now available with a PayPal payment option.  Brian requested that everyone make their reservations at the hotel and for the seminar as soon as possible to give WSATI an idea of how many people to plan for.

Brian introduced Melissa Somers, Executive Director of the Crime Prevention Program for the Construction Industry of Southern California.  Melissa wanted to let everyone know if they had any questions regarding heavy equipment to contact her and she would attempt to obtain the information needed or point them in the right direction to find the help they needed.

Brian then introduced 2015-2016 IAATI Western Regional Chapter (WRCIAATI) President Dennis Frias who spoke about WRCIAATI and the benefits of being an IAATI member.  He let everyone know that anyone attending the WSATI Training Seminar would have their 2017 IAATI membership dues paid for.

The Guest Speakers were Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Automobile Insurance Fraud Division, Deputy District Attorney Don Tamura and California Department of Insurance Investigator Dan Shohan.  They gave a presentation on "Filing an Automobile Insurance Fraud Case: Best Practices."

Following the presentation, Brian then requested the attendees introduce themselves to the other attendees and to discuss any cases or information that needed to be shared.  WSATI Webmaster Gary Labb spoke about the networking opportunity available through the WSATI Southern Chapter membership roster that is posted on the WSATI website.  He said a lot of information was available via the encrypted roster.  He then gave the attendees the encryption password.

Brian then announced that the Santa Maria Style Bar-B-Que was ready for everyone to enjoy.  Everyone helped themselves to the tri-tip, chicken, hot links, salad, potato salad, beans, rolls, and cookies.  Everyone appeared to enjoy and some took a trip back for seconds....  A big thank you to the "Iron Chefs," Johnny Miyasaki, Mick O'Neill, and Mike Stefanoff, for preparing the meal.  It was a very hot day to be standing over a BBQ to prepare the luncheon for all the hungry attendees.

During the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to survey the raffle prizes that were available to raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs.  Following the luncheon, the raffle was then completed by Mick O'Neill, Jeff Enfield, Mike Stefanoff, and Melissa Somers

Some of us had the opportunity for a personal tour of the Ontario Police Museum by curator Robert "Bob" Kallas. Want to thank Bob for the quick tour.  Bob also had one of the older police cars parked out in front of our venue.  If you are in the area of the Police Department, and the museum is open, take a look.  Their motto is "Remembering the Past.  Supporting the Future."

There were some new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time.  Thank you all for your attendance.

The meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be on November 17, 2016 in Carson.
