TRAINING MEETING / LUNCHEON

March 18, 2010 - The Old Spaghetti Factory - Duarte

The newest WSATI venue - The Old Spaghetti Factory - Duarte

Due to the great turnout of people for the March meeting, we had to abandon the initial room set up for the meeting and move to a larger room in the newest venue for the WSATI Southern Chapter, the Old Spaghetti Factory in Duarte.  This is a unique location as the restaurant took over what used to be the old Duarte School building.

2010 WSATI Southern Chapter President John Bartolone (DMV Investigations) welcomed everyone to the meeting and apologized for having to move everyone to a larger room.

John then introduced the WSATI Southern Chapter Presidents in attendance; Skip Davidson (1991), Dennis Frias (1997), Dave Dempsey (1998), Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), Lou Koven (2002), Phil Macklin (2004), Rick Greenwood (2008), and Jim Williams (2009).

John spoke about the San Diego County ATAC Recovery Officer of the Year Awards Brunch that took place on Tuesday, March 16, 2010.  He announced that the Top Officer in San Diego County was San Diego Police Department Officer Patrick Shadoan.

John then reminded the attendees about LAPD BAD CATS Detective John Byun's Retirement Party on March 19, 2010.

John then spoke about the 39th Annual WSATI Training Seminar in San Diego on May 24-28, 2010.  He said that information could be located on the WSATI website and that a "Paypal" option was now available to pay for the Seminar Registation Fees using a credit card. John asked everyone to think about not only attending but letting Bud Hood know of some business that might be interested in sponsoring the Seminar or being an exhibitor at the Seminar.  Information on being an exhibitor or sponsor can be located here.

John advised that there would be no May 2010 WSATI Southern Chapter Training Meeting / Luncheon because the date fell too close to the upcoming training seminar.

John then introduced the Guest Speakers, L.A. County TRAP Deputy District Attornies Alex Karkanen and Mike Mallano, who gave a presentation on VC 2805 Inspections and Administrative Searches.

Following Alex and Mike's presentation, WSATI Southern Chapter Sergeant-at-Arms Tim Jackson (AAA Southern California) conducted the raffle.  There were a lot of great raffle prizes.  Dave Dempsey and Vic Valdez, both from AAA Southern California, assisted Tim with the raffle.  The grand prize, a portable hard drive, was won by Rick Greenwood (Riverside Police)... as Rick said "I bought a lot of tickets."

Following the raffle, a great lunch was served to the attendees.  And now a lot of us know that a Vesuvius is not spaghetti and meatballs...

During lunch, Bill Harris (Enterprize Rent-A-Car [Retired]) announced that following the meeting he would be able to bring over attendees who wished to accompany him to the Justice Brothers Racing Museum a few blocks away in Duarte.

There will be a 2010 WSATI Southern Chapter Training Seminar Committee meeting scheduled for April 22, 2010.  If anyone still wishes to become involved in the Seminar planning or wishes to help out at the Seminar, please plan on attending the Committee meeting.  Please contact any of the WSATI Chapter Officers for the meeting location and time.

Secretary Tim Glover (LASD/TRAP)

Sergeant-At-Arms Tim Jackson (AAA Southern California SIU)
Associate Director Aristeeed Powell (DMV Investigations - Artesia)
Associate Director Brian Yori (LAPD/TRAP)
