TRAINING MEETING / LUNCHEON
March 19, 2015 - Galpin Auto Sports - G.A.S. - Van
2015 WSATI Southern Chapter President Aristeed Powell (DMV Investigations - Orange) welcomed everyone to the meeting and to the newest WSATI venue, the "Collection" at Galpin Auto Sports - G.A.S., in Van Nuys. Aristeed then asked Past President Skip Davidson (Davidson Investigations) to lead the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.
Aristeed then introduced the other Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:
Vice President Brian
Treasurer Jeff Enfield (LASD/TRAP) and Associate Director Mike Stefanoff (CHP/OCATT) could not attend the meeting.
Aristeed then had the WSATI Southern Chapter Past Presidents who were in attendance introduce themselves to the attendees:
Skip Davidson (1991), Gary Labb (2000), Lou Koven (2002), and Tim Jackson (2014).
Aristeed then asked everyone in attendance to introduce themselves to the other attendees and share any information or important cases.
Vice President Brian Yori (LAPD/TRAP) spoke about the 2016 WSATI Training Seminar that will be held in San Diego in October 2016. This seminar will be hosted by the Southern Chapter and Brian invited the attendees to not only plan on attending the seminar but to all think about volunteering to be on the many committees that help put on the seminar.
Aristeed then introduced the guest speaker, Adam Martin, Vice President - The Hagerty Education Program at America's Car Museum, based at the Petersen Automotive Museum, who gave a presentation on Classic Car Identification, including "VIN Decoding Classic Cars." Adam and his staff have developed a program, similar to NICB's VINassist program, that works with pre-1981 (17 digit VIN) vehicles. They've also come up with a lot of tools and resources to help investigators in identifying classic cars.
Aristeed then had Alan Skobin, WSATI Associate Director, who is also a Galpin Vice President, come up to speak to the attendees. Alan spoke about the collection and welcomed everyone to look around at the amazing cars in the collection. There were cars ranging from a Muntz, to some very old Fords, to a Daytona, and just about everything in between.
Out in the parking lot was a beautiful Mustang GT 50 Anniversary Edition to an original Dodge Charger R/T.
Galpin Auto Sports then provided a great catered lunch that everyone agreed was one of the best luncheons ever provided at a WSATI Training Meeting / luncheon. Galpin Auto Sports went out of their way to welcome WSATI in every way imaginable.
During the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to survey the raffle prizes that were available to raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs. The upcoming Orange County Awards will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2015, in Irvine.
The WSATIWear collection of work shirts, T-shirts, and hats was brought to the meeting and were available for purchase at the meeting. The most current WSATI Southern Chapter T-shirts, hats, and work shirts are available from WSATIWear. For inquiries regarding WSATIWear, please contact Past President Rob Manning.
The raffle was then conducted by Mick O'Neill, Johnny Miyasaki, Pat Goodman, and Brian Yori. There were a lot of people walking away with WSATIWear shirts and hats that supposedly had not been worn by Brian Yori.
There were some new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time. Thank you all for your attendance.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be on May 21, 2015 in Long Beach.
