The newest WSATI Meeting venue...

2007 WSATI Southern Chapter President Bud Hood (OCSD/OCATT Retired) welcomed everyone to the newest WSATI meeting venue, the Lakewood Country Club.

Bud then requested that Past President Terry Cramer (Orange County Sheriffs [retired]) lead the members in the pledge of allegiance.

Bud then introduced the 2007 Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:

Rick Greenwood, Vice President, Riverside Police
Jim Williams, Secretary, Long Beach Police
Dave Petrelli, Sergeant-at-Arms, Farmers Insurance
John Bartolone, Treasurer, DMV Investigations
Richard O. Knapp, Legal Counsel, Knapp & Spurlock, LLP

Steve Torres, Immediate Past President, DMV Investigations [retired] was introduced, but not present.

Bud then introduced the Southern Chapter Past Presidents in attendance: Terry Cramer (1995), Dave Dempsey (1998), Gary Labb (2000), and Bill Lovold (2001).

Bud then spoke about the 2007 WSATI Training Seminar taking place in San Diego in September 2007.  He then advised the attendees that immediately following the Southern Chapter meeting would be a Seminar Committee meeting if anyone wished to attend.

Vice President Rick Greenwood then interrupted the proceedings to present Bud with a plaque from WSATI commemorating Bud's retirement from OCSD/OCATT on 3/29/07.

Bud then had the members in attendance do self introductions.  It was great to see the great turnout of people who traveled in from Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego Counties.  Welcome to all the new Investigators joining us, including Ron Gee and Leslie Murray (Downey PD), as well as several people we had not seen in awhile, Keith Jackson (LAPD [retired]) Dave Locke (AAA [retired), and Kevin Letson (Farmers Insurance SIU).

WSATI Past President Gary Labb (and current IAATI Western Regional Chapter President) spoke about the upcoming IAATI Training Seminar in Phoenix in August.  He asked those interested in attending to please go to the IAATI webpage, iaati.org, to get complete information on the seminar.

Bud then spoke about the great "networking opportunities" available at both the WSATI and IAATI Seminars.  He also spoke about the member lists available for both.  Gary then spoke about a recent "networking" action that originated in Europe, went through IAATI President Tommy Hansen (Galveston TX SD), and came to Gary since it involved California.  Gary was able to contact Toyota Financial Services to verify the financial status of a Toyota Tundra that was crossing the border in Romania.  The information was then sent back to the European IAATI member.  This type of "networking" is what makes both IAATI and WSATI membership so important.

Bud then introduced the guest speakers, Shawn Ferris (Department of Insurance) and Eric Charlick (San Diego RATT/Department of Insurance).  Shawn is the Chief Investigator for San Diego and Imperial County and Eric is a Criminal Investigator.  Their presentation on Insurance Fraud was well received by the attendees.

Special thanks to Jim Hayes, Buena Park PD/OCATT (retired) who just happened to have his laptop in the truck when Shawn's DOI computer would not work correctly.  Without Jim's immediate assistance, the program's Power Point could not have been presented.

Bud then asked attendees if they had anything they'd like to share with the others.

Bud the spoke about the upcoming Orange County ATAC Awards Presentation on 5/24/07.  He said that if anyone was interested in attending, to RSVP as soon as possible.  For information about the Orange County ATAC Awards, click here.  Bud also spoke about the recent San Diego County ATAC Awards.  Click here for information.  Bud said that WSATI would be willing to assist in putting together an ATAC Awards Program for Los Angeles County if anyone wanted "to step up to the plate."  ATAC is a subcommittee of WSATI.  Click here for information on the Auto Theft Advisory Committee.

Bud then announced that the available classes for the WSATI Training Seminar were now posted on the WSATI webpage for potential attendees to see.  Click here for the class schedule.

Bud Hood presided over the WSATI raffle.

Bud Hood announced that the next meeting would be on July 19, 2007 at the Toyota Service Development Center Building in Torrance.

Bud also advised that new WSATI Southern Chapter T-shirts were available with the new Southern Chapter Logo.

Bud then announced that lunch was ready and invited those attending to get in line to get their Italian buffet lunch.  Attendees then had the opportunity to "network" during their lunches.

The meeting was adjourned.

After the meeting, people interested in helping put together the 2007 WSATI Training Seminar got together to discuss committees and what was needed.  Attending the meeting were Bud Hood, John Bartolone, Rick Greenwood, Jim Williams, Martha Jones-Joseph, Geri Gary, Dave Petrelli, Vic Johnston, Terry Cramer, Jim Hayes, and Gary Labb.  We are seeking more people to be involved in all aspects of the Seminar.  Some of the committees are Training and Educational Committee; Publicity, Marketing, and Public Relations Committee; Finance Committee; Exhibits Committee; Registration Committee; and Local Entertainment, Amusement, Sightseeing, and Companion Program Committee.  If someone wants to help put together a golf tournament in conjunction with the Seminar, we would like to have you involved.  All these committees can use additional people.  If you have an interest, please contact Bud.  The next scheduled Seminar planning meeting will be on Thursday, June 21, 2007.
