May 21, 2015 - Long Beach Police Officers Association Park - Long Beach

2015 WSATI Southern Chapter President Aristeed Powell (DMV Investigations - Orange) welcomed everyone to the meeting and to the newest WSATI venue, the  Long Beach Police Association Park, Long Beach.  Aristeed then asked Past President Rob Manning (LASD TRAP) to lead the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.

The other Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:

Vice President Brian Yori (LAPD/TRAP)
Treasurer Jeff Enfield (LASD/TRAP)
Sergeant-At-Arms Mick O'Neill (Hagerty Insurance SIU)
Associate Director Pat Goodman (NICB/OCATT)
Associate Director Johnny Miyasaki (Long Beach Police)
Associate Director Alan Skobin (LASD/TRAP)
Associate Director Mike Stefanoff (CHP/OCATT)
Legal Counsel Richard Knapp (Knapp & Spurlock, LLP)

Secretary Heather Roberts ( Liberty Mutual Insurance SIU) and  could not attend the meeting.

The WSATI Southern Chapter Past Presidents who were in attendance were:

Ted Saraf (1992), Dennis Frias (1997), Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), Lou Koven (2002), John Bartolone (2010), Rob Manning (2013), and Tim Jackson (2014).

Southern Chapter Treasurer Jeff Enfield (LASD/TRAP) introduced his former patrol partner, Guest Speaker Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Arson / Bomb Investigator and author (Torchered Minds and Fireraisers, Freaks, and Fiends) Ed Nordskog.  Detective Nordskog said that he had investigated more than 2000 arson cases, and at least 700 of them involved vehicle arsons.  Detective Nordskog provided case study analysis of arson for profit schemes involving “stolen” automobiles by both one time offenders and organized crime groups.  Detective Nordskog's presentation included videos of "not too bright" arsonists.

Aristeed then asked everyone in attendance to introduce themselves to the other attendees and share any information or important cases.

Aristeed then announced that the Santa Maria Style Bar-B-Que was ready for everyone to enjoy.  Everyone helped themselves to the tri-tip, chicken, salad, potato salad, beans, rolls, and cookies.  Everyone appeared to enjoy and some took a trip back for seconds....  A big thank you to the "Iron Chef," Vice President Brian Yori, for preparing the meal.

During the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to survey the raffle prizes that were available to raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs.  The upcoming Orange County Awards will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2015, in Irvine.   Following the luncheon, the raffle was then conducted by Mick O'Neill and Jeff Enfield.  There were a lot of people walking away with WSATIWear shirts and hats that supposedly had not been worn by Brian Yori.  Maybe a new collection of shirts is coming as everyone in attendance was asked to take home some of the older collection of shirts.

The WSATIWear collection of work shirts, T-shirts, and hats was brought to the meeting and were available for purchase at the meeting.  The most current WSATI Southern Chapter T-shirts, hats, and work shirts are also available from WSATIWear.  For inquiries regarding WSATIWear, please contact Past President Rob Manning

There were some new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time.  Thank you all for your attendance.

The meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be on July 16, 2015.
