TRAINING MEETING / LUNCHEON
November 15, 2012 - Lucille's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que
2012 WSATI Southern Chapter President Tim Glover (LASD TRAP) welcomed everyone to the meeting. Tim asked everyone to join him in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Tim requested that the attendees do self-introductions to assist with possible networking. He also requested that any attendees bring up cases of interest to the group.
WSATI 2000 Past President / Current Webmaster Gary Labb (Santa Ana PD / OCATT - Retired) advised the attendees of the importance of filling in the sign-in forms as they are transferred to the online encrypted roster on the website. Gary then gave the attendees the password to access the encrypted roster. Gary said that the roster was a great networking tool. Gary also spoke about the WSATI Classic Cars page on the WSATI website, asking the attendees to look at the almost 250 classic cars currently listed.
Several other attendees spoke about cases that will not be discussed in the minutes. It was good to have so many of the attendees share information with the other attendees.
Tim said that there were some "new" WSATI Southern Chapter shirts available. To see some of the available shirts, please go to WSATIWear. Please contact Rob Manning at his listed email address for current pricing on the shirts.
Tim then introduced Ron Poll, Executive Director of the Construction Industry's Crime Prevention Program (CPP) of Southern California. Ron requested that Dennis Frias to come up and give a background on the Award and the person it was named for, CHP Inland Division ISU Investigator John Hootman. Dennis explained the case and gave some background on John and why the award was so named the CPP "Hooter's Hummer" Award.
Ron then read the information about the case that CPP thought was the most deserving of this year's "Hooter's Hummer" Award. Ron then requested that the LAPD SAFE Detail come up to the front of the audience to receive the "Hooter's Hummer" Award. The award was then presented to the team by CPP Assistant Director Art Mata. The recipients were Joe Williamson, Ben Black, and Rafael Virrueta. The team also thanked NICB Agent Lou Koven for his help in the case.
The guest speaker was Investigator Jim Eberhart, California Highway Patrol Southern Division ISU, who gave a presentation on Sport Bike theft investigations and trends. Jim's presentation was very well received by the attendees.
Following Jim's presentation, Lucille's staff brought out the food and everyone dug in...
Following lunch, the raffle was conducted by WSATI Southern Chapter Secretary Tim Jackson (AAA Southern California). There were a lot of great raffle prizes. Victor Valdez (AAA Southern California) assisted Tim with the raffle.
Following the raffle, the meeting was adjourned by Tim Glover. The next meeting will be on Thursday, January 17, 2013.
Following the meeting was a 2013 WSATI Training Seminar Committee Meeting. If you have an interest in being part of the group helping to put on the 2013 Training Seminar in San Diego, please click here.
