TRAINING MEETING / LUNCHEON
November 20, 2014 - AAA Ace Garage - Tustin
2014 WSATI Southern Chapter President Tim Jackson (AAA Insurance SIU) welcomed everyone to the meeting and to the newest WSATI venue, the AAA Ace Garage in Tustin. Tim then asked Past President Ted Saraf (LoJack) to lead the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.
Tim thanked the attendees who showed up in their classic cars and exotic cars.
Tim then introduced the other Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:
Vice President Aristeed Powell (DMV Investigations - Orange), Past President Rob Manning (LASD/TRAP), and Legal Counsel Richard Knapp (Knapp & Spurlock, LLP) could not attend the meeting.
Tim then introduced WSATI Southern Chapter Past Presidents who were in attendance:
Ted Saraf (1992), Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), and Lou Koven (2002).
Tim thanked AAA for opening up the Ace Garage for the meeting.
Tim said this was his last meeting as President and the current officers would be moving up in 2015, leaving an opening for an Associate Director position. He welcomed anyone who had an interest to spend about 6 years moving up the positions to think about joining the Chapter Officers in 2015. He requested that anyone with an interest to serve in 2015, to please contact any of the current Chapter Officers.
Tim then introduced the guest speakers, representatives from the local regional auto theft task forces. Each speaker spoke about their task forces, the latest trends seen by the task forces, and current cases being worked by the task forces. The speakers were Bureau Chief Shawn Ferris from the California DOI 1050 Urban Auto Fraud Taskforce, Captain Randy Stover from the Los Angeles County Taskforce for Regional Autotheft Prevention - TRAP, Lieutenant Michael Stefanoff from the Orange County Auto Theft Taskforce - OCATT, Lieutenant Ron Seldon from the Riverside Autotheft Interdiction Detail - RAID, Lieutenant Dan Delong from the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Taskforce - SANCATT, and Captain Matthew Guthrie from the San Diego County Regional Auto Theft Taskforce - RATT.
Following the presentation, Tim asked everyone in attendance to introduce themselves to the other attendees and share any information or important cases.
Tim then announced that the luncheon was ready to be served.
A catered luncheon was then provided to the attendees who stayed to have lunch. I don't think anyone had any complaints about the luncheon that was served at this meeting. All I heard were compliments about it being the best luncheon (outside of Lucille's and the catered luncheon at the Toyota Museum) that people could recall. A definite thank you to 24 Carrots Catering and Events for a great lunch.
During the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to survey the raffle prizes that were available to raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs.
Sergeant-at-Arms Jeff Enfield brought the WSATIWear collection of work shirts, T-shirts, and hats to the meeting so they were available for purchase at the meeting. The most current WSATI Southern Chapter T-shirts, hats, and work shirts are available from WSATIWear. For inquiries regarding WSATIWear, please contact Past President Rob Manning.
Tim announced that the next meeting would be held at Lucille's in Cerritos. Look for details on the website.
The raffle was then conducted by Mick O'Neill, Jeff Enfield, Pat Goodman, and Brian Yori. There were a lot of people walking away with WSATIWear shirts and hats.
Following the raffle, the meeting was adjourned by Tim Jackson. Attendees had the opportunity to go through the AAA Ace Garage. For some photos from the AAA Ace Garage and the parking lot car show, please click here.
There were some new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time. Thank you all for your attendance.
