November 17, 2016 - Back in the Day Classics - Carson
2016 WSATI Southern Chapter President Brian Yori (LAPD TRAP) welcomed everyone to the meeting at the newest WSATI venue, Back in the Day Classics in Carson. Thank you Tony Martinez for making your businesses available to us for the meeting.
Brian asked former Marine LeRoy Zion (Automotive Collision Consultants) to lead the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.
The other Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:
Vice President Heather Roberts ( Liberty Mutual Insurance SIU), Sergeant at Arms Mike Stefanoff (CHP/OCATT), Associate Director Keith Jackson (KBJ Investigations, LLC), and Associate Director Alan Skobin (LASD/TRAP) were unable to attend the Meeting.
The WSATI Southern Chapter Past Presidents in attendance were:
Gary Labb (2000), Bill Lovold (2001), and Tim Jackson (2014).
The Guest Speaker was Richard "Dick" Sartor, Western States Cargo Theft Association / Duncan & Son Lines. Dick gave a presentation / demonstration on cargo container theft and container identification. Thank you to Duncan & Son Lines for supplying two tractors and drivers, one with a 20' container and the other with a 40' container, for our practical demonstration.
Brian introduced Melissa Somers, Executive Director of the Crime Prevention Program for the Construction Industry of Southern California. Melissa spoke about the upcoming John Hootman Memorial Award that will be presented at the January 19, 2017 WSATI Training Meeting. She said that nominations for the award need to get to CPP of SoCal by December 31, 2016 to be considered. A nomination form can be located here.
Brian then announced that the luncheon was ready for everyone. All of us had been smelling the wonderful aroma coming our way since the meeting began. The luncheon, provided by El Tacorin Taqueria was enjoyed by all, with many making a trip back for seconds....
While finishing up our lunch, Tony Martinez said he was going to provide a special treat for us, bringing in Joe's Italian Ice to provide dessert. This was definitely enjoyed and appreciated by the attendees. Once again, a big thank you to Tony for providing this to us, and to Joe's Italian Ice for making the trip all the way from Anaheim to provide us dessert.
During the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to survey the raffle prizes that were available to raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs. Following the luncheon, the raffle was conducted by Mick O'Neill, Jeff Enfield, and Robert Midzuno.
Most of us had the opportunity to go check out the many cars and memorabilia inside and outside of Back in the Day Classics either before or after the meeting. Thank you to Tony and Jon for being gracious hosts. For photos of Back in the Day Classics cars and memorabilia, please click here.
There were some new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time. Thank you all for your attendance.
Brian announced if anyone had an interest in becoming a 2017 Chapter Officer to please let one of the current officers know as there would be a Board Meeting after the Training Meeting to determine the 2017 Board.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be on January 19, 2017.
